Governance
Caldecote CE Academy joined the Diocese of St Albans Multi Academy Trust (DSAMAT) in July 2017
DSAMAT was founded by the Diocese of St Albans, and is a Trust working with schools across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. The DSAMAT community has a strong commitment to a shared mission.
This is underpinned by our shared values:
Enabling all to flourish: Rooted in God’s Love
Hope, nurture, collaboration, equality, respect
Our Trust is governed by a range of bodies. Members have strategic oversight for the work of the Trust, including representatives from the Diocesan Board of Finance and Diocesan Board of Education and reflect the range of skills required to oversee an Academy Trust. Directors of the Trust are appointed by the Members and are responsible for the day-to-day running of the Trust. The academies are accountable to the Directors who make strategic decisions impacting them.
Local Governing Boards
Individual academies are governed at a local level by their own Local Governing Board (LGB). LGBs have the same level of delegated responsibility from the Directors which is outlined within the Governance Framework and financial delegation.

Who's Who on the Governing Body
Vaughan Johnson
Sarah Young
I was delighted to become the Headteacher of Caldecote CE Academy in September 2021, following 4 years as senior teacher.
I qualified as a teacher in 1999 at the University of Hertfordshire, with an English degree and maths as my second subject. I have worked in a range of schools; junior, middle, lower and primary and have a wealth of experience in different roles across the age ranges and held many roles: assistant headteacher, advanced skills teacher and a consultant for the Diocese of St Albans.
I have 4 children, 3 of whom are still school age.
Sue Dodson
Lesley Hulbert
I am the Early Years Lead, SENDCo and Designated safeguarding Lead for Caldecote CE Academy and joined the Local Governing Body in December 2021.
I have been in education for over 30 years starting as an assistant in Pre -school, moving on to parent helper as my first role in school then Teaching assistant supporting children with Special Educational Needs. My first teaching role was as an unqualified teacher while completing my degree in Education studies and gaining qualified teacher status.
I have worked across the age rage in Lower school and am now enjoying the privilege of teaching the children in Early Years at the beginning of their learning journey.
The experience I bring to my Governor role is broad and I am able to bring knowledge and experience not only in teaching and learning but also in my passions SEND and Safeguarding. I also represent the viewpoint and experiences of staff and children in our school.
Catherine Baker
My name is Catherine Baker and I have lived in Upper Caldecote for 12 years. I have three young boys, two of which attend our lovely primary school. I qualified as a secondary school German and French teacher in 2007 and have enjoyed teaching languages, as well as being Head of Key Stage 4, until I took a career break after having my third son. I enjoy village life and have volunteered locally for many years; currently as an active member of our PTFA. I decided to become a parent governor to give something back to the school and to work alongside our school community to ensure a quality education for all our children.
Sarah Sizer
I’m Sarah, and my daughter Martha is in year 4, and my son Harry also attended Caldecote CE Academy before moving onto middle school.
I decided to become a governor for the school as I felt my business experience would benefit the board, and I have also worked as a cover supervisor, so I have some experience within a school environment. I am degree educated in English Studies and have a great eye for detail too!
It’s been a wonderful experience seeing the school develop, and I’m particularly excited for the transition to Primary in September, and watching this lovely school flourish.
